If you buy your own health insurance in Florida, 2027 is not a year to let your plan renew on autopilot. Florida has 12 Marketplace insurers for 2027, and the state’s final average rate increase is 10.4% before subsidies (Florida Office of Insurance Regulation). Some of the biggest changes hit families in South Florida, Central Florida, and Tampa Bay.
Who is leaving Florida’s Marketplace for 2027
- Cigna is leaving the Marketplace in Florida and every other state where it sells for 2027. Cigna members need to pick a new plan (KFF; STAT).
- Molina is not on the state’s list of 2027 Marketplace insurers (Healthcare Insider).
- Sunshine State Health Plan is closing its Marketplace plans. About 22,000 members who don’t choose a new plan will be moved into an Ambetter plan (Herald-Tribune; Ambetter Health).
Florida Blue is still selling Marketplace plans in all 67 counties, and UnitedHealthcare is expanding its Florida service area for 2027 (Becker’s).

Why “doing nothing” can cost you
If your insurer is leaving, you may be moved into a plan you didn’t choose. That plan may have a different network, a different deductible, or a higher price. Even if your insurer is staying, prices are going up: insurers asked for a median increase of about 15% for 2027 (KFF).
The extra federal subsidies that helped many Floridians from 2021 to 2025 have also ended (Congressional Research Service). For 2027, help is limited to incomes between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level (HealthCare.gov). That’s up to $63,840 for a single person (HHS poverty guidelines).
Key 2027 dates (HealthCare.gov states)
- November 1, 2026: Open Enrollment starts
- December 15, 2026: last day to pick a plan that starts January 1
- January 15, 2027: Open Enrollment ends (coverage starts February 1)
A simple 4-step plan for Florida families
- Open your mail. Look for a “discontinuation” or “renewal” notice from your insurer or HealthCare.gov.
- Make a list of your doctors and prescriptions. Networks change when insurers leave.
- Update your 2027 income estimate. Your savings depend on it.
- Compare before December 15. That’s the deadline for coverage that starts January 1 (HealthCare.gov).
Two more Florida changes to check
Before you renew
- UnitedHealthcare and AdventHealth: UnitedHealthcare ended its contract with AdventHealth. If they don’t reach a new deal by December 31, 2026, AdventHealth hospitals and doctors in Florida will be out of network for UnitedHealthcare members, including Marketplace plans, starting January 1, 2027. Nothing has changed yet (AdventHealth).
- Ambetter condition-specific plans: Ambetter’s Enhanced Diabetes Care plans are available in Florida, with $0 preferred insulin and $0 select diabetes supplies for eligible members (Ambetter Health).
New for 2027: you approve who helps you
- When a licensed agent helps you enroll or change plans, you approve that agent for 2027, often with a one-time code sent to your phone or email (CMS).
- Use your own phone number and email on the application. The code has to reach you, not the agent (CMS).
- Have a Social Security number or immigration document for everyone on the application (newborns excepted) (CMS). If one is missing, update it when you choose your 2027 plan, by December 15 (CMS).
Quick answers
I have Sunshine State Health Plan. Do I have to do anything?
If you do nothing, you’ll be moved into an Ambetter plan. That may be fine, but check that your doctors and prescriptions are covered before you accept it.
Does a broker cost more?
No. Marketplace plan prices are the same whether you enroll on your own or with a licensed broker.
